June 27th - news during the week

First off, clean up on the pits will be July 6th at 6:30-7:00ish. We are going to concentrate on cleaning up the actual pit area. Getting the dirt into the pit and cutting away the growth around the walking path. All the more the merrier !!!

Bill and Phil are working on getting two replacement trees planted before worlds. I believe that the trees are being donated by Connelly's Trees (at least I think that is the right name).

The T-Shirts have been ordered for worlds. We got our order turned in way-way late, but they are going to get them to us on time. I may very well be delivering them at 8am on July 10th to those that play the first day. I will be getting with everyone that has a shirt and they will have them before they start play.... of course, that is if they get in on time. Monogramming thinks that since it is only 19 shirts that they should be able to fit the job in somewhere. I sure hope so!

The walking doubles tournament (thanks again Nene for taking this on) will be held every evening from July 9 - 21. I believe that Bill (thanks Bill) found some lights, so pit #1 should be lit by the time of the tournament. Nene pretty much has everything under control, so you might as well come down and get some practice in before worlds. GOOD LUCK TO ALL AT WORLDS. I HOPE WE HAVE A BUNCH OF WORLD CHAMIONS!!!

Remember, our next night of league will be July 25th.

I have not contacted "Alva" or the "Timmers" but hope to do so before the doubles tournaments. I hope that they might want to sell their wares during the two week span.

The blanket/wall hanging project is still in the works. I hope that we can get it pulled off in time to make some money on a raffle.

thats about it.... until next time...nothing but dblrngrs

See you there

June 13th - news during the week

It appears that the light that was taken off of court #1 has been lost. Bill volunteered to contact a few electrical companies in town to see if they can replace the light. It seems that this light may not be in circulation any more.

It has been recommended that a tarp be placed over the fence in front of the Burger King drive-thru. At times, the headlights on the cars can be almost blinding on court 9-12. I will visit with the Shell manager and find out if they would be opposed to this idea.

I’m not sure if you know what geocaching is , but I have two caches at the pits. If you see people wondering around the courts with a GPS, they are looking for the cache. For your info the 1st part of the cache is on the information board, the 2nd part of the cache is behind the board at the East end of the pit. - IF PEOPLE SHOW UP, JUST SAY HELLO AND HAPPY CACHING. (sounds like cashing) If you want to see the caches, let me know and I will show them to you !

World’s will be here before we know it.
1) I am going to contact the "Timmers" and "Alva" to sell their horseshoe craft wares during the walking doubles tournaments. Maybe they can make a little money. If you know of anyone else in Gillette that sells this type of craft, please have them get in touch with me.

2) Diana has permission to use the equipment to monogram "stuff". We are going to work on making a quilt to raffle during Worlds. There will be one square (embroidered with the state/providence name) for each state/providence represented in the tournament. Hopefully we can get permission to sell tickets at the registration book at Cam-plex, as well as at the walking doubles tournament. Great idea Diana

3) Please remember that our club is responsible to man the registration table. The table will probably be open 8:00-4:00ish from July 10 - 20th. A sign up sheet is in the shed.

4) T-shirt orders for Worlds continues. This sign up sheet is also in the shed.

5) Nene is running the walking doubles tournament every night of worlds. If you would like to help out, just visit with her some evening. Thanks again Nene.

That’s about it for the week.

June 6th - news during the week

I called Weed & Pest to see if they could spray for mosquitos (thanks Thelma). I will also get ahold of the owner of the property North of the pits to ask if he would clean up the area prior to Worlds (good idea Bill- thanks). Rick McCabe removed the light on court #1 to see if we could order some less expensive lights. He did not get a chance to do this, and has since misplaced the light. I hope that he will have it back before next Tuesday !
